This site provides GLBT and supportive individuals, organizations and businesses the opportunity to list and promote their meetings, conferences, festivals, shows, and other exciting events. Accessible from any Internet connection, the site presents a simple calendar format - easily providing for a complete listing of GLBT related events across Nebraska.
AND the site will provide charitable donations to many of the very groups which use the site. While start up costs were generously sponosored by the Nebraska Pink Pages and Rainbow Celebrations, the site now relies on the banner advertising and donations from supportive persons across Nebraska to stay online. Site maintenance, hosting fees and operating costs will be recouped, and then remaining money will be granted via charitable donations!
The brainchild of Chris Shepherd and Troy Fienhold-Haasis, Nebraska GLBT Events.com fills a void in the GLBT communities of Nebraska. In the past, several ventures have attempted to provide event listing along with other venues. To date, no successful formula has proven to work in promoting the many events across the state. By creating a site strictly devoted to promoting the EVENTS in the community, Shepherd and Fienhold-Haasis hope to avoid the pitfalls that have befallen any previous predecessors.
The site creators firmly believe that once the GLBT communities of Nebraska can easily see the many events which happen almost daily across our state, attendance and support will increase. Rather than searching through every organizations or businesses websites to find the events, Nebraska GLBT Events.com presents everything at a key strokes length.
No strangers to the GLBT Communities of Nebraska, Shepherd and Fienhold-Haasis both bring considerable knowledge and background to this new venture. They hope to use their experience to make the site a community success.
A web designer since 1995, Shepherd has assisted many organizations and small businesses with website development. Local nonprofit organizations include PFLAG Cornhusker, PFLAG Omaha, Proud Horizons, The Nebraska LGBT Democratic Caucus, and the Nebraska PinkPages. An active member of the GLBT community, Shepherd has been involved with various events and organizations in Nebraska since the early 90's. Shepherd manages the Nebraska PinkPages, an online GLBT friendly business directory.
With management, fundraising and nonprofit volunteerism under his belt, Fienhold-Haasis definitely knows the ins and outs of promoting events. As Rainbow Celebrations' Pride Chair 2002-2006, Fienhold-Haasis was responsible for leading the effort to plan and produce the annual Nebraska Pride Celebration. As a former Mr Gay Pride Nebraska 2001, Mr Q 1996, and Grand Duke 22 with the Imperial Court of Nebraska, he has extensive experience in event planning. Before bringing his skills and talents to Nebraska, he served the GLBT communities of Iowa as Emperor 6 of the Imperial Court of Iowa, Mr Gay Des Moines All American 1991 and founded the Rainbow Unity Foundation which provides scholarships to GLBT high school graduates across Iowa. Most recently, he and international performance artist have founded the Diamond Foundation to provide "scholarships, mentoring and leadership" to GLBT students across Nebraska.
Together, Shepherd and Fienhold-Haasis - under the Nebraska GLBT Events.com banner - hope to further their efforts on behalf of the many persons, organizations and businesses which form the GLBT and supportive communities of Nebraska. Many people have commented that there is nowhere to go to find all the events happening in our communities. By providing an new avenue of promotion for ALL events across Nebraska - the Nebraska GLBT Events.com Calendar site looks to fill that void.
